I don't usually talk about what age I was when I played with whatever toy we are discussing. Looking back, we have just as good of memories of the toys we had when we were ten as when we were five. I do feel that I should mention age today since this post follows the Mego Mad Monsters and Monster High which are all toys for older kids.
The Weebles and Fisher Price Little People were and still are for younger kids, so don't compare these toys with the previous monsters. Thought of in the proper age group, the Weebles Haunted House was one of the coolest playsets ever! Weebles began as a Romper Room toy and then were acquired and made by Hasbro.
My cousin had this Haunted House and I loved playing with it at her house. It had all kinds of neat features like furniture, secret doors and a fun mirror.
It came with four great weebles. Two were "scared" children. The others were a witch with a removable hat and a Casper-like friendly ghost.
I remember wishing that I had this set, but for some reason I had more Fisher Price Little People (like my Play Family Village) than Weebles. Unfortunately, Fisher Price didn't have a haunted house or make any holiday playsets back in my day. This is why I was surprised to find out that they do now.
In recent years, Fisher Price has made all kinds of holiday sets for their current Little People. They have Easter Sets, Christmas Sets
, Thanksgiving Sets
and Fall and Halloween Sets
.
The playset that is almost comparable to the Weebles Haunted House is the Little People Trick-or-Treat Surprise Playset.
To me, that doesn't look like even half as much fun as the Weebles set, but then I have to remember that it is for two and three year olds. Plus I still have to get over these Little People have molded arms and legs and their larger size. At least they're not huge like the new Weebles, but that is material for a future post.
These newer little people certainly aren't my old wooden Fisher Price Little People.
The little pumpkin with the ghost in it is pretty cool. The weird thing about this set is that I don't think it is sold in stores. Fisher Price says it is exclusive only to their website but of course there are online resellers as well.
FP has some other Harvest and Fall Themed sets that I think
I like better than the Trick or Treat Surprise.
I Like the Little People Pumpkin Party Playset and the Harvest Hayride Fall Playset
better. The Hayride set is simply Fall themed with hay and pumpkins. The Pumpkin Party set however, still has a Halloween feel with its Jack-O-Lanterns, spiders and ghosts. These sets together could possibly compete with the old Weebles Haunted House - maybe.
I'm just glad that Fisher-Price is finally making Halloween and Fall themed toys. Next I need to check out what they have for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
