Halloween themed and monster toys were pretty popular when I was a kid. I started wondering if Halloween toys are still a big thing so I decided to check and see what is currently available in the way of Halloween toys. I spent some time in the toy aisles of our grocery stores and did some internet checking and found that yes, there are some seemingly cool Halloween or monster toys available today. Do they measure up to the cool Halloween toys from my childhood? I really don't know so I thought I'd highlight some of today's Halloween/Monster items as well as some of my favorite Halloween/Monster toys from the 70's and try to decide.
I found that there are some similarities between today's monster or Halloween toys and the ones from years ago. My favorite Halloween toy as a kid was the Weebles Haunted House. The closest thing to it today that I could find is probably the new Little People Halloween Playsets.
The best Monster toys that I had were the Mego Mad Monsters. Today's girl version of these might be the Barbie Witch and the new Monster High fashion dolls.
I also enjoyed the Castle Dracula Fun House Colorforms and my Mighty Men and Monster Maker because I could be creative with them. The creative Monster toys available today are the various monster Lego Mini figures and the very cool Mr. Potato Head Trick or Tator.
I started writing a single post highlighting all of the above mentioned toys but it got way too long. Instead,
I will break them up in a series of posts over the next several days. After I show you all of these toys in depth, we can discuss if the Halloween Toys 2 Remember were better than today's, or if today's are just as fun.
I have very found memories of my monster and Halloween toys. Before starting this Halloween/Monster research however, I had no idea that there were still some cool toys available in this category. After the research, there are indeed some newer items that I plan to buy for Halloween this year. After seeing the next few posts, maybe you will be able to see what I mean. I'd love to know what you think.
Stay tuned and get ready for the Trick-or-Treating, scary, haunting, terrifying and fun look at Halloween and Monster toys, past and present.
Happy October and Happy early Halloween!
