As I have written before here, I was a huge fan of Fisher Price Adventure People. As for my favorite figures, they would tie for first place with Star Wars figures. So Imagine my surprise when looking through a Star Wars collectible book, when I came across this picture:
What!? Adventure People Star Wars figures?
According to Star Wars: 1,000 Collectibles: Memorabilia and Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away, a picture like this appeared in an early print ad for Kenner's French affiliate, Meccano. They obviously were concept mock-ups sculpted from Adventure People. No one knows if those prototypes still exist. The figures shown in the photo are actually reproduction "prototype" star wars figures crafted by master customizer Nick Macarty. You can find a great article about Macarty on starwars.com.
Photos and descriptions like these are found throughout this great new Star Wars collectibles book by the owner of the world's largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia, Steve J. Sansweet.
Read more about Sansweet on Wookieepedia.
Star Wars: 1,000 Collectibles is probably the best Star Wars memorabilia book I've ever seen. It was just published in late 2009 and has 568 pages filled with large full color pictures and all kinds of cool items I've never seen before. It's not a price guide. Rather, it is like going on a tour with Sansweet through his and other peoples Star Wars collections complete with the stories behind the items. Very cool!
Maybe I will tell you about some of the other items in this book in a later post. My friends and I have marked many of the interesting pages with post-it not reminders, as you can see above Chewbacca!
I would love to have all the great Star Wars stuff shown in this book! Have you read this book? Are there other Star Wars books that you would recommend? Let me know.
