I was blessed as a kid to have a lot of toys. My family wasn't rich by any stretch of the imagination, but my brother and I benefited from being the only Grand kids in the family. My Grandparents were very generous and loved to see us get the toys we wanted. As we grew up, our toys were put into our large attic instead of being thrown out. So luckily I arrived at adulthood with many great toys from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
I started this site, Toys 2 Remember, back in 2007 in order to showcase some of these old toys and invite you to remember along with me the great fun we had playing with our childhood toys. I wasn't able to put as many posts on as I would have liked and I got busy with regular life raising my two daughters. Having them introduced me to "girl toys" but now that they are mostly grown, their toys are no longer around. For a brief time, I thought that having toys was now only a thing of the past and even had thoughts of shutting down this site. But then something amazing happened..........
Just for fun one Fall day, my family went to a LEGO show at our county fairgrounds. That was when I discovered that there were adults who still "played with" LEGOs! They were called AFOLs (Adult Fans Of Lego) and made incredible custom creations that amazed me! Legos were so much more detailed than when I had them as a kid. I just had to get some sets for myself and experience these new Legos! When I looked into what current Lego sets were available, I found out that they were just beginning a whole Lego Lone Ranger series. I loved The Lone Ranger as a kid so that was perfect! I ended up getting every set in the series.
My daughters bought me the Kings Castle 70404 for Christmas that year and now I have that whole series as well, along with some random sets from The Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, Star Wars and even Galaxy Squad.
Why all of this is important is because being a new AFOL fundamentally changed my thinking about toys. No longer would I simply reminisce about my old toys. Now I could ALSO allow myself to enjoy current toys and collectibles too!
That sounds simple, but it is a profound change for me and for this website. What began as a site looking back at the Toys 2 Remember is now a site that looks at ALL toys that are worthy of being Toys 2 Remember.
Antique toys, vintage toys, modern toys and collectibles - they're all cool! So welcome to the new Toys2Remember.com. Get ready for a showcase of toys past and present as together we will enjoy the Toys 2 Remember!
